Ask Acumen

Alex Hodge, PhD

CMC Scientist, Drug Substance

How long have you been with Acumen?

I started at Acumen in June 2022, so I’ve been here for just over 2 years. I have worked in the drug manufacturing space for a little over 8 years total.

How does your role contribute to the overall vision of the company?

A major portion of my role at Acumen is overseeing and assisting with the manufacturing of sabirnetug drug substance. This is critical for maintaining a supply of drug for use in clinical trials.

Which of Acumen’s four values (People, Integrity, Innovation, and Perseverance) resonates most with your work and role?

I believe that innovation most closely aligns with my work and role. Problem solving is central to my role and I often find myself working closely with our contract manufacturers to develop creative solutions to the problems we see prior to or during the manufacturing of sabirnetug. Ultimately, these solutions can improve our manufacturing yield, streamline the process, and help keep our manufacturing schedule on track.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to join our company and contribute to our mission in Alzheimer’s research?

I would absolutely encourage anyone who is interested in Acumen to join our company. Not only is our treatment promising and our mission in Alzheimer’s research strong, but I also have the pleasure of working alongside many wonderful people who share a similar vision to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests that you enjoy in your free time?

Outside of work, I’m largely spending time with my wife and son. I’m a student of history and enjoy travel. I like fishing and spending time out on the water. I also enjoy flying my drone and working with my 3D printer.
